RA Power Solutions successfully carried out in situ crankshaft grinding and repair of a MAK-3 8CM32C engine in Burkina Faso, West Africa. The scope of work included inspection, precision grinding, and polishing of all eight crankpins using state-of-the-art portable crankshaft grinding equipment.
During the first inspection excessive ovality and scoring marks were found on the crankpins. Hardness testing was performed, and Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI) was performed to confirm that there were no cracks.
The crankpins were then ground to strict dimensional accuracy and controlled grinding tolerances on site. The entire repair was completed without removing the crankshaft from the engine, eliminating the need for disassembly and minimizing the downtime.
